Board-certified neurosurgeon Frank L. Acosta, Jr., MD, brings over a decade of experience in orthopedics and neurology to California Neurosurgical Institute in Bakersfield, Encino, and Valencia, California. Dr. Acosta is a highly regarded expert in matters of the spine, including complex reconstruction and spinal deformities and neurological conditions that require surgery.

Dr. Acosta attended Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he studied chemistry and graduated with honors. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he was a member of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Society. He did an internship in general surgery and his neurosurgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco. He also completed a fellowship in complex and reconstructive spine surgery at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

A diplomat of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, Dr. Acosta has received honors from institutions like Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and Harvard College. He has also earned multiple awards from organizations such as the Scoliosis Research Society and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Fellowship in Academic Medicine from the Maxine Dunitz Neurological Institute, also at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, for his research into various spine and neurological issues.

Dr. Acosta is tireless in his ongoing education and has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed medical publications. He has co-authored numerous chapters in medical books and been invited to professionally review countless others. He is currently an active reviewer for The Spine Journal, Global Spine Journal, and Neurosurgery.

Dr. Acosta has conducted lectures at prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore and the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He is an internationally renowned expert and has been invited to lecture at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Seoul, Korea, and the Arab Spine Society in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 

In his free time, Dr. Acosta enjoys boxing, tennis, golf, and listening to jazz. He also makes sure to back to his community and participates in mentoring programs. He looks forward to treating new and existing patients at California Neurosurgical Institute.
